National accounting and advisory company adds Ogden's SGS

OGDEN ? A Top of Utah company is merging with a national one to bring more opportunity to Ogden.

Schmitt, Griffiths, Smith & Co., an Ogden-based accounting and consulting firm, will join Eide Bailly, a national public accounting and business advisory firm, on Nov. 1.

Rebecca Macias, SGS?s marketing coordinator, said the company, which has been in Weber County for 38 years, will remain in Ogden after the merger.

?Everything here will still be locally run,? Macias said. ?The (merger) basically just gives us more resources and an opportunity to grow and expand.?

The merger will bring Eide Bailly?s total staff to nearly 1,200, including 165 partners. Eide Bailly?s total revenues for the fiscal year that ended April 30 were $158 million. SGS will add $6 million of revenue.

Eide Bailly has 19 offices across the United States, mostly located in the West and Midwest.

Jerry Topp, Eide Bailly managing partner, said the acquisition is a part of Eide Bailly?s existing growth strategy to connect contiguous geographies.

?SGS is a very successful organization with a strong practice in Utah,? Topp said. ?Bringing SGS into the Eide Bailly family will connect our Phoenix, Denver, Boise and Billings practice areas.?
